Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI), Kenya

Dr. Kelvin Khisa is a holder of a PhD in Environmental Policy from the University of Nairobi. His research interests are in business resource use efficiency, cleaner production, green and circular economy innovation promotion.

He has over 20 years’ experience in guiding businesses to transform the way they think about resources. He technically assists them to appreciate how resource efficiency fits into their overall business strategy, understand and review their baseline performances, identify potential areas for improvement and implement resource efficiency improvement measures that are monitored, benchmarked and evaluated so as to guide the continual improvement processes.

He has been offering technical advisory services to Kenyan corporates including banks in enabling them to fully embrace sustainability based economic development models that help lead to improved productivity and competitiveness.

His greatest challenge over the years has been how to change the top company management mind sets so that they can start embracing emerging and promising sustainability concepts such as, “the Green and Circular Economy Innovation Promotion”, “Closed Loop” approaches to materials management, as well as the “Cradle to Cradle” approaches that seek to divert wastes and by-products from the landfill.
