Romildo D. Toledo Filho holds a master’s degree (1986) and a doctorate (1997) in Civil Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and completed his postdoctoral studies at the Technical University of Dresden in Germany. He is a full professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), and a member of the National Academy of Engineering (ANE). He joined the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering (Coppe/UFRJ) in 1999, within the Civil Engineering Program. He served as the General Director of Coppe (2019 – 2023), Director of Technology and Innovation (2013 to 2015), and Vice-Director of the institution (2015 to 2019).

He was awarded the Luiz Alfredo Falcão Bauer Award by the Brazilian Concrete Institute as the Highlight of the Year in Engineering in the field of concrete and constituent materials research (2009). He has been twice honored by Faperj (Rio de Janeiro State Research Foundation) through the “Scientist of Our State” (2010) and “Young Scientist of Our State” (2000) programs.

As the Executive Coordinator of the Brazil-China Center for Climate Change and Renewable Energies, he is a member of the INBAR Bamboo Construction Task Force and President of the Brazilian Association of Non-Conventional Materials and Technologies. He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering (ANE) and was elected one of the world’s best scientists in the 2023 Research.com ranking. Since August 2023, he has held the position of Executive Director of the UFRJ Science Park and, since 2024, he has been the Director of International Relations at Anprotec.
